summer 2021

interning @ Humana

01

This summer, I had the privilege to intern at Humana as a business development + care delivery intern. Being able to intern at a Fortune 50 company and one of the biggest players in the healthcare industry, I was able to learn so much not only about healthcare, but about the functions of a company in general. I was able to sit in large meetings of hundreds of people and I was able to even lead a meeting of over 40 people and cultivate a conversation about targeting our team's dysfunctions as well as areas we can work together to improve upon. I also got the chance to discuss 1 on 1 with the Chief Financial Officer of Medicaid at Humana and it really showed me what it takes to be a top executive.

However, by farthe most important part of my summer was creating an interactive dashboard to showcase all of the different learning and onboarding courses taken for Humana employees. Using the dashboard, we are able to see which courses have been taken most frequently, the longest courses, and spiked periods of new hires. There were over 48,000 data points on Excel that I organized and converted to a dashboard to visualize the data for management to see. And to minimize future work, the dashboard continues to update as it receives new data.

Tread Lightly was created in order to get Generation Z to read the news more. With most articles on other news sources, like Apple News, being well over 5 pages long, the new generation just simply doesn't read that. So, this website and app has articles under 250 words with lively words to get the new generation to read the news.

Our current healthcare system does not work right now. The US spends 18% of the GDP on healthcare, yet we rank 37th in the world for healthcare. The US is the only highly developed country without universal healthcare. Our private system of healthcare just isn't working; private companies can set their prices. We wanted to fix this. So we proposed this bill...

With Nazi symbols and racial slurs flooding the halls of my high school, I wanted to stop this. I hosted an assembly to over four hundred students right before Veterans Day in order to show them the importance of respecting other cultures. I was the MC and facilitator of the assembly. I presented a PowerPoint on the importance of our veterans and provided a bigger overall theme of why we need to be more socially aware of the effects of racism.
